VET Basics

‘VET basics’ takes a simple approach to explain the fundamental elements of VET.

Human Resources

Employees are an organisation’s biggest asset. Ways to responsibly and effectively manage human resources are critical for any business – including RTOs.

Mapping

Assessment needs to adequately cover all aspects of a unit of competency and its associated assessment requirements. Mapping is the process of checking and recording all necessary information is addressed.

Credential Policy

The Credential Policy outlines the credentials required for trainers and assessors undertaking particular training and assessment activities or roles. RTOs must comply with the Credential Policy (as referenced within the Standards) to ensure training is delivered by properly qualified and credentialed people.

Training and Accreditation Council (TAC)

The Training Accreditation Council (TAC) is the body responsible for regulating RTOs in Western Australia.

VET Quality Framework (VQF) - Australia wide

The VET Quality Framework (VQF) is a set of standards and conditions used by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), the national VET regulator, to assess whether registered training organisations (RTOs) under its jurisdiction meet the requirements for registration. To obtain and retain registration, RTOs must comply with each of the elements and their associated components.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans is the loan system under which eligible students can access selected higher level Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications.

Skill Sets and Microcredentials

Skill Sets are a single Unit of Competency or combinations of Units of Competency from an endorsed Training Package, which link to a licensing or regulatory requirement, or a defined industry need or job role. Micro-credentials are small, certification-style courses that focus on a particular area of study to hone proficiency over the shortest possible time.

Delivery of Training

Delivering training takes planning and preparation to ensure all resources, rooms and content is accounted for.

Checklists

Checklists can be designed for almost any purpose and are effective tools for recording assessment judgements.

Core Skills for Work Framework (CSfW)

The CSfW is a framework that describes the non-technical skills and capabilities which are considered essential for successful participation in work.

Awards and Recognition

In recognition of outstanding achievement and performance in the VET sector, there are a number of competitions and awards that celebrate excellence in VET.
