Transition Arrangements

There are certain RTO activities that must be completed in set timeframes when a training product is superseded, removed or deleted from the national VET register.

Units of Competency

A Unit of Competency is the smallest component of a Training Package that can be assessed and recognised. It gives a description of the skills and knowledge required to perform effectively to a specific standard in a particular workplace role or function.

System Basics

‘System Basics’ gives a break-down of the interconnected functions, frameworks and entities in Australia’s VET sector.

Sales and Marketing

RTOs must balance their sales and growth needs with specific requirements and allowable practices related to the marketing of their training products and services.

Recruitment

Recruitment is about finding the right people with the right experience, qualifications and attitude to help the business succeed.

Reasonable Adjustment

RTOs have an obligation to assist learners who may need some flexibility in training and assessment so that their individual needs can be met.

Accredited Courses

Accredited courses supplement the national training package framework by delivering unique training outcomes in industry required skills that are not covered by relevant Training Packages or endorsed Units of Competency.

Access and Equity

‘Access and Equity’ is a principle designed to encourage all learners and ensure they are given equal opportunities to training and its outcomes.

Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)

The AQF applies in all states and territories and describes the standards for regulated Australian qualifications delivered through schools, higher education institutions and RTOs.

Learner Support

RTOs need to identify any particular requirements a student may have, and then, where needs are identified, formulate strategies to make support available to the student.

Training and Assessment Strategies (TAS)

A TAS is a framework that identifies the structure for the way in which a training product is delivered to learners and the way assessment will occur.

VET Acronyms

The VET sector makes use of myriad acronyms to refer to specific terms and components of the system; find them here.
