It's Velg Training's mission to Educate, Inspire and Empower the Vocational Education and Training (VET) community and it's with this goal in mind that we have created our Professional Development Challenge.

Your Velg Training Membership includes a vast array of relevant and meaningful resources that are completely free. Therefore, this personal PD Challenge  encourages you to invest in yourself each day for 4 weeks and to make a personal commitment to take some time to explore the resources you have available at your fingertips. 

To help you through the challenge, we've created a nifty PD Challenge Resource for each week.  This resource is conveniently linked to the daily activities and when you are logged into your Velg Training account, will take you straight to the source.

Week 1:  Training and Assessment Strategies

A training and assessment strategy (TAS) is a documented plan for an RTO’s direction regarding, and scope of, training and assessment activities that relate to a Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification. Due to the importance of a TAS and its critical influence on how an RTO will conduct  training and assessment we thought it was the perfect starting point for Week #1.

Week 2:  Industry Engagement

Industry engagement adds authenticity to an RTO's training programs, their training and assessment materials, and to student outcomes. Integrating industry engagement at various stages of RTO operations is a must. It's also the focus of Week #2! Immerse yourself in Clauses 1.5 and 1.6 from the Standards for RTOs 2015. Week 3:  Learner Support

The Standards for RTOs 2015 require RTOs to support and inform learners throughout their journey with the training organisation. Specifically, Clause 1.7 says the RTO must determine the support needs of individual learners and provide access to the support services necessary for the learner to meet the requirements of the training product as specified in training packages or VET accredited courses. As a trainer and assessor, what does this mean for you?  What do you need to know and/do to be able to support your students?

In Week #3, the Velg Training Members PD Challenge is all about Learner Support.  Revisit the Knowledge Hub to access an overview of what this could mean to your RTO, view the VelgCast that deals with diversity, and watch the webinar replay of ‘Reframing Our Look at Learning’.  You might be surprised at what a little reframing can do for your perspective!

Week 4:  Effective Assessment

For our last week, the Velg Training Members PD Challenge is focusing on Effective Assessment.

Get familiar with Clauses 1.8 – 1.12 via the Standards at a Glance, spend some time engaging with the Knowledge Hub topic Assessment Systems and end your week with a webinar on ‘Designing Compliant Assessment Tools’. Sometimes revisiting topics can help shine a new light on our existing knowledge and understanding!
