Topic overview

What do we need to record in a Marking Guide and Why? This 90-minute session provides quality content that will unpack the importance of marking guides and the critical components they need to include, and includes an up to 30-minute freestyle element where our Competency-Based Assessment Expert, John Dwyer, addresses questions, questions on notice and frequently asked questions.

Marking guides, by whatever name, are a critical component of an assessment tool. They are a major vehicle through which the reliability of assessment judgements is controlled. This session looked at various names applied to marking guides, it explored the importance of them for meeting the reliability principle of assessment and will look briefly at marking guide formatting. It considered the difference between “satisfactory” and “competent” judgements and discussed where these apply. This session used a number of examples drawn from actual marking guides.
