New Projects for the Seafood and Aquaculture Industry

The Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC) has approved three new projects for the seafood, aquaculture and wild catch industry.

Project pages will be published on our website over the next few weeks. We encourage anyone who would like to be involved to register their interest to receive project updates.

Skills Impact will support the Aquaculture and Wild Catch Industry Reference Committee (IRC) to undertake these projects, which will review and/or develop units of competency, skill sets and qualifications within the SFI Seafood Industry Training Package.

Greyhounds & Equine Safety in Training Projects Finalised

The qualifications, skill sets and units of competency that were reviewed and developed as part of the Greyhounds Project and Equine Safety in Training Project are now published on training.gov.au. It follows endorsement by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) and means they are available for use by registered training organisations (RTOs).

The greyhound qualifications, skill sets and units are embedded within the RGR Racing Training Package.

The equine qualifications, skill sets and units are embedded within the following training packages:

Equine qualifications, skill sets and units from the RGR Racing Training Package were not included in this release. Feedback from industry was that the proposed safety measures being applied to the AHC and ACM units were not appropriate for the horse racing Industry. As such, a new Racing Project has been established to satisfactorily incorporate safety into the units, skill sets and qualifications within the RGR Racing Training Package.

Skills Impact supported the relevant Industry Reference Committees (IRCs) to undertake these projects. Skills Impact is a national Skills Service Organisation, funded by the Australian Government to support the operation of Industry Reference Committees across a range of industries.

2018 IRC Skills Forecasts Underway - Documenting Skills Priorities & Gaps

Skills Impact’s Industry Facilitation Managers have been out and about visiting different industry sites and organisations over the past few months. They have been meeting with industry to gain information about skills gaps, priorities and drivers in their sector. Along with other research, this information is documented in draft IRC Skills Forecasts and Proposed Schedules of Work which are then subject to wider consultation. They are then considered by the relevant Industry Reference Committees (IRCs), prior to submission to the Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC).

The IRC Skills Forecasts and Proposed Schedules of Work identify skills gaps and emerging skills needs within industry and determine whether there is a need to change training packages (i.e. units of competency and qualifications). The AISC draws on this information to update their AISC National Schedule, and to determine future Training Package Projects.

The draft IRC Skills Forecast and Proposed Schedule of Work will be available on the Skills Impact website for broad consultation, before they are submitted to the Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC) in April.
