For those who joined our session last year we had some fun looking at:
In our session this year, we will build on all this work and look at how the best brands build their profile; how we can apply these lessons to VET in our school and we can continue to advocate, promote, strengthen and support the profile of VET in your school.

There’s nothing old about ‘old dogs’ and nothing new about ‘new tricks’, it’s just the way we manage them.
VET is on an exponential change curve that leaves the Richter Scale in its wake!
This session will explore how we can use some the tools and techniques to engage and re-engage with our colleagues.
It will consider the use of strategies on how to manage such a changing environment and maintain control of the quality system.
It will also consider the value of appreciative enquiry when we are faced with a dynamically changing future and how motivation can be maintained through simple user-friendly systems that increase the intrinsic value of our daily working lives.
John Price has been an educator and trainer for over 40 years and in that time has worked as a Head of Department at TAFE, mentor, facilitator of national workshops covering delivery and assessment, risk management, auditing, leadership and interpersonal skill development.
John has been a keynote speaker at conventions and conferences, and maintained a grass roots level approach to dealing with people at all levels of the organisation.
He has also assisted over 300 organisations in Australia to achieve quality certification to the range of National Training Standards including: Standards for NVR Registered Training Organisations (versions 2012 and 2015); Australian Quality Training Framework standards (AQTF from 2001 – 2010) Australian and International ISO9001 standards (AS/NZS and ISO from 1987 – 2008) and worked with these organisations in establishing continuous improvement systems and strategies.
This session will focus on the ‘Amount of Training’ and ‘Volume of Learning’ requirements when delivering vocational education programs to senior secondary students in QLD School RTOs. These often misunderstood concepts have the added restrictions of an inflexible curriculum school timetable to fit into therefore we shall firstly look into the full definition of the terms and explore ways to effectively implement these when developing the training and assessment practices for your programs.
Melanie has held a variety of roles within the Academic and Vocational Education and Training (VET) sectors over the past 25 years including trainer and assessor, Head of Faculty, Program Manager, RTO Manager, and Head of Quality Assurance and has won awards for practice excellence in teaching and learning, and outstanding leadership.
In recent years, Melanie worked as a Senior Lead Auditor, conducting regulatory audits and registrations against the current VET Quality Framework and Standards for RTOs 2015, and has authored and built a number of online professional development programs to support VET practitioners nationally.
Today Melanie works as an Education Services Advisor of Vocational Education, Skills and Training for Queensland schools and provides consulting support services to RTOs as a VET Consultant in her own right.
Face-to-face, blended delivery, flipped classroom, online learning – all of these delivery methods have one thing in common: the need to engage the learner. The use of online tools to engage learners is booming. Many learners want to connect online as part of their learning journey, others just enjoy using technology. As trainers, where do we begin? How do we incorporate the use of technology in our training across a range of delivery methods?
Watch this space!

This session will look at the common types of course currently being offered to senior secondary students in Queensland Schools and how to effectively schedule these to fit with an inflexible school curriculum timetable. The focus will be on the intended goals of the student once they leave school and how to best enable their learning requirements and fit these within the resource parameters you have available within your school RTO.

This session will start with looking at the components of a GOOD assessment tool, then get down to the nitty gritty of creating your own observation tool that addresses the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence in a workshop-type situation. Be prepared to learn, engage and share with others in a fun environment.

Units of competency describe both the skills and knowledge (amongst other aspects) that students must demonstrate in order to be deemed competent.
Evidence of these judgments needs to be retained for a period of time, but how do we keep evidence of a student's performance of skills for the cake they baked months ago? One solution is to ensure the RTO uses comprehensive observation checklists to keep a record of the performance of skills. This session will break the process down of developing quality observation checklists for evidence gathering.

The pace of change has never been so great nor as disruptive as it is today. So how do we prepare our young people for this future?
