SPOTLIGHT – Trainer and Assessor Currency

19 July 2017
Sydney

Characteristics of high performing trainers and assessors include their ability to develop and maintain their skills knowledge and experience in their vocational content area as well as their knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning that informs their training and assessment.

Although the outcomes and benefits of these processes provides the motivation for themselves and their learners to perform well it is not always clear as to what they need to do to maintain these activities and subsequently record the outcomes for both quality in delivery and assessment and compliance to the Standards.

Key topics covered in the session

Compliance and quality requirements should never clash or attempt to promote themselves as one above the other. The professional approach that trainers and assessors have for their profession leads them into involvement in many quality activities that often exceed the requirements of compliance to the Standards. Yet the actual determination of the ‘what, where, when, and how’ of professional development is not always easy to define and consequently record.

This workshop provides an opportunity to:

  • Examine what motivates the trainer and assessor to maintain professional practices
  • Interpret the relevant requirements of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015 in a practical way
  • Discuss the range of professional development practices that occur as a natural component of training and assessment in a changing environment that can be used to meet these requirements
  • Examine the changing nature of the learner and the need to develop applicable engagement processes
  • Determine a ‘best guess’ of where the VET industry is going and the opportunities through innovative practices to meet demands that may be placed on us
  • Determine simple and effective methods to record currency activities and provide this much sought after evidence for compliance
